This is your new blog post. Click here and start typing, or drag in elements from the top bar. Santa has already arrived at Glory Days Antiques. Normally we would say Bah Humbug! at such an early date, but we have to admit, I love dressing the front gallery up for the holidays. We still have some fall seasonal decor and gifts, perfect for Thanksgiving plus lots of Winter- and Christmas-themed items. We are often working in our studio, so if the door is open, come by and see us! Kathy and Connie EEK! It's time to think about the Holidays! 10/02/2011
Rubber skeletons from the 1950s. We have a quantity of these yellow fellows in our studio. They make fun Halloween ornaments -- just add a decorative hanger and perhaps a black bow tie! Autumn in The Oregon Handwork Studio For me, Autumn means harvesting the last crop of vegetables, tasting just-ripe apples and pears and planning handmade gifts for the Holidays -- but not before having a blast decorating and celebrating Halloween, my favorite holiday of them all. The front gallery is all about Halloween and in our classroom, we are teaching a variety of techniques and projects using autumn-themed colors. In my book, it doesn't get better than this. New to the studio are some gorgeous trims and ribbons sold by-the-yard (not pre-cut), Kathy's pumpkin patch (grown in a large patch in her very large front yard!) and some of Connie's framed vintage bird prints. Hope to see you soon. In a word... YES 06/28/2011
Yes life is hectic. Yes learning a new craft may sound daunting. Yes we all get into a rut from time to time. YES. We can help. We have the classes, the complete kits and the studio tools to enable you to walk right in, sit down and complete a project -- no pre-work and no tools or materials to purchase above the class fee. We have the teachers with the time and patience to ensure a successful result, each and every time. And YES, we have a heck of a lot of fun (we should have done this a long time ago.) Hope to see you at Open Studio, Sunday, July 3. $5 fee includes refreshments and a place in our classroom. 1 Comment Light-Filled Classroom and Summer Schedule 06/03/2011
We have been busy developing even more samples for new classes. This month we're smitten by sequinned pretty little pin cushions and needle keeps, and our paper dolls are finding themselves with clock heads, wings and mermaid tails! I've also been collecting items for another shadow box. I found a wonderful old painted drawer from a discarded sewing cabinet and can't wait to fill it with found objects. Our front gallery is filling up. We add items every week. Last week we acquired some very old dolls and doll clothes. We just couldn't resist the age and quality of the pieces. Connie and I spent all day scouring the county for items that we can use as class supplies, as display fixtures or as beautiful found objects we can offer for sale in our newly expanded space. As of May 1st, in addition to our dedicated classroom, we are happy to announce that we now have another room to fill up with artful items. June's class schedule is available and we are spending our Mother's Day making samples to show -- which means we are happily playing with paper dolls, embroidering pretty little pin cushions, and pairing chains with pearls, and rhinestones with skeleton keys. (Our kids think we're nuts.) Shadowbox Art 04/26/2011
Yesterday guest teacher, Johnnie Mozzoco, led a workshop in creating shadowboxes. Our completed pieces were as diverse as the people creating them – two boxes were created completely out of spontaneity and letting the box “talk” back to the artist, one student’s box focused on fantasy and visual delight, one box was based on a Greek myth, another became a memory box and tribute to a deceased family member. Initially Johnnie gave us some background on Joseph Cornell, a pioneer in shadowbox and assemblage art and an avant–garde filmmaker who worked as an artist from the 1930s until his death in 1972. We watched films of his work throughout the day. After some background on shadowbox-making we developed our boxes with material we brought to the workshop, augmented by found objects in the classroom and around the store. We glued, painted, positioned and assembled items all day. It was a thought-provoking and delightful process. Ephemera and Class Supplies in Stock 04/05/2011
We've just completed our first week of being "officially" open for classes. We're re-connecting with old friends, filling up the studio with supplies and ephemera and looking forward to our open house at the end of the month. Both Connie and I are obsessed with letters and numbers this month. So we are looking to stencil, stamp or print on as many interesting items as we can find! If you have ideas or requests for classes or supplies, please drop us an email -- you can do this quickly and easily through the "registration" page of this site. We are so happy to be settled in our new classroom upstairs in Glory Days Antiques. For those of you who have already taken classes with us downstairs, you'll find a more spacious, organized and complete handwork studio. If you are new to The Oregon Handwork Studio, we look forward to sharing our love of art and handmade. Please drop by and see us as often as you like. Our Shop is open 7 days a week and you can usually find either Connie or Kathy during shop hours Tuesdays - Sundays. We hope you can make our Open House on Friday, April 29, from 1:00 - 5:00, and be sure to mark your calendars for Glory Days 'Spring Fling', March 31-April 2, when you will find vintage and new garden decor in our shop and throughout the store.
